Week 2 Off & Running

Updated: Sep 5, 2018

Routines are being solidified more and more in both classes. When students arrive in class they find their seats they and copy down the Warm Up for the day. The Warm Up consists of two Wuzzles or Word Puzzles. They have 7 minutes to copy these down and work on solving them before we go over the answers as a class.

Can you solve this?

In Science class we started learning about water and discussing its characteristics. Students ware participating in a bottled water experiment with several types of store bought bottles of water. They learned that people in the US spent $9 Billion dollars on bottled water in 2003. Students believe that that dollar amount has probably increased. Out goal is to see if there really is a distinguishable flavor difference in bottle water vs tap water. We will also be discussing how water can be polluted, preserved and cleaned. We will be discussing, listening to MPR programing and watching clips about the Flint Water Crisis. With this base knowledge we will begin our Fruitvale simulation. The Fruitvale simulation is lesson about a fictitious town that has a water problem. Students ultimate goal is to figure out where the problem started (point source).

In Design & Engineering students were introduced the design & engineering process. We will be using this process though out the year in both D&E and Science. The goal is to have this become a tool for students to solve any problem or assignment in any class. On Wednesday's class we started making paper rockets. We follow the design process and we'll test on Friday if the weather allows. Be sure to come back for pictures of the launch.

Sorry about the sideways pictures. I haven't learned all the tricks on this site.
